KHIC's president joins The Center for Rural Development's executive board, SEKTDA's board

Jerry Rickett, president and CEO of Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation (KHIC), has begun a three-year term on the executive committee for The Center for Rural Development. The term began in August 2001.

“The Center for Rural Development and Kentucky Highlands have partnered on many projects since The Center opened in June 1996,” said Lonnie Lawson, The Center’s interim executive director and general manager. “KHIC has been a great supporter of The Center and its mission. It is a pleasure and an honor to have Jerry Rickett serve on our board of directors representing the Southern and Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development Association and the tourism industry.”

The Center for Rural Development is dedicated to rural development in 40 counties in Southern and Eastern Kentucky with an emphasis on regional development in agriculture, tourism, culture, manufacturing, commerce and trade.

“I’m proud to be a part of The Center and to be involved in this board’s work,” Rickett said. “Kentucky Highlands has helped create more than 8,000 jobs in our service area. With The Center’s emphasis on developing our region’s economy, this board appointment is a natural extension of Kentucky Highlands’ work.”

The 11-member executive committee is charged with general oversight of The Center, its staff and its activities, and is responsible for the promotion and coordination of increased public and private efforts designed to address regional rural development issues.

Rickett and his wife, Elaine, have been married for 29 years. They have one daughter, Shannon, a senior at The University of Louisville, and one son, Todd, a freshman at The University of Louisville.
