2005 Excellence In Entrepreneurship Awards

SOMERSET, KY - The Center for Rural Development, in partnership with Eastern Kentucky University’s College of Business and Technology and Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation, hosted the 2005 Excellence In 2005 Excellence In Entrepreneurship Awards to honor four businesses in region Entrepreneurship Awards at a business luncheon on Monday, September 12, 2005. Eastern Kentucky University president, Joanne Glasser, presided over the ceremonies while U.S. Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) was the keynote speaker for the event.

“A strong small business sector is critical to strengthening the economy not only in our region but in our nation,” said Congressman Rogers.

Jerry Rickett, president and CEO of the Kentucky Highlands Investment Corp. said, “Entrepreneurs are visionaries and risk-takers foundational to any community. That’s what the Excellence In Entrepreneurship Awards are about.”

The Excellence In Entrepreneurship Award was established in 2001 to honor excellence in entrepreneurship throughout Eastern and Southern Kentucky. Award recipients were selected based on nominations received from 55 Eastern and Southern Kentucky counties.

The award winners were: Tom Fields of Southeastern Kentucky Rehabilitation Industries, Inc. in Corbin—Not-For-Profit; Lora Jane Hyden of Pointe of Joy Performing Arts in Paintsville—Start-up Business; Julian Moss, Jr. of Moss Flowers, Inc. in Lancaster—For-Profit with 25 employees or less; and Steve Keck of Somerset Recycling Services, Inc. in Somerset—For-Profit with more than 25 employees.
