American Waterways Grand Opening

American Waterways, a division of Sumerset Houseboats, located on KY 90 in Wayne County had their grand opening on June 15.

Steve Lochmueller, CEO of Sumerset Houseboats and American Waterways, said that the idea for American Waterways started last fall from a strategy session. The idea to build an affordable, entry level houseboat that included the same quality of a Sumerset Houseboat was born. In 17 weeks since aquiring the building from Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation, the first houseboat was completed.

American waterways will be producing three different sized boats; each boat will then have one of six schemes. The starting price for the houseboats will be about $175,000.

American waterways currently employ 50 people and plan to grow the company to 95.
