Highlands Housing Corporation** (HHC) is a non-profit specializing in energy-efficient, affordable housing. Since its inception in 2007, HHC has provided housing solutions to over 140 homeowners. HHC constructs new homes, rehabilitates owner-occupied homes, and helps home-buyers get the financing they need to make their home-ownership dreams come true. HHC delivers these solutions through a number of programs including a mutual self-help housing program which brings families together in small build groups to cooperatively build their homes. Mutual self-help home-buyers work 30 hours/week on the homes in their build group and in exchange self-help home-buyers save on the cost of construction because most of the labor is donated by the build group.

In FY2017, HHC completed 32 new homes and helped 8 families finance the purchase of an existing home. Through 9 months of FY2018, HHC has built 19 homes and helped 3 families buy an existing home. HHC also manages a Tenant-Based Rental Assistance program in McCreary County which provides rent support to cost-burdened renters.

In 2018, HHC will also work with Bell-Whitley Community Action Agency to develop 4 duplexes in Middlesboro, KY to provide energy efficient rental housing to the community. The units will be developed by Wayne Manufactured Structures using the HBEER process. More information on HBEER is available here.
