Gene Bundy is a consultant to the Kentucky Highlands Empowerment Zone. Gene is responsible for management and coordination of empowerment zone and other projects. His primary responsibility is management of the agricultural projects including the Alternative Crop Program and the Production Loan Program. These two programs are designed to provide capital and technical assistance to farmers located in the Kentucky Highlands Empowerment Zone. Gene has extensive experience in originating loans to both groups and individuals having spent most of his career as an employee of the U S Department of Agriculture Farmers Home Administration. He began as an Assistant County Supervisor of Laurel County in 1965. He became County Supervisor of Knox and Jackson Counties in 1968 where he worked until 1980 when he became a District Office Staff Member until 1994. At the District Office he processed, serviced, and monitored construction of community programs and rural rental housing in a nineteen county area. Gene assumed the responsibilities of the District Director at various times during his career with USDA.

Gene graduated from Berea College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He has also taken 30 credit hours from the University of Kentucky. Gene has completed various work related courses and training.
